03.02.2012 Participation of the History Workshop in the youth action of the Federal Government of Germany
January, from 22 to 27 the annual youth action devoted to struggle against Nazism, fascism and anti-Semitism "Jugendbegegnung 2012" took place in Berlin.

The German Bundestag invited about 80 young participants from different countries. The representatives of Belarus, Irina Kalinovich, the manager of the project “A Place of Meeting - a Dialog”, and Yulia Evenko, the student of Minsk State Linguistic University, participated in a wide range of activities, including a visit to Sachsenhausen concentration camp, the new Jewish museum, and memorials to victims of World War II.

On the International Holocaust Remembrance Day the participants honored the memory of the victims at the Bundestag plenary hall of the Bundestag together with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, president of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert, and other famous politicians.

 - It is amazing how quickly we, the youth from Belarus, Germany, Poland, USA and other countries, became friends with each other, - tells Yulia Evenko. – Each of us studied a particular topic within the scope of teamwork in Berlin. For example, one group worked up the topic “The fortune of forced workers from the Eastern Europe”, another one carried out “Topography of the terror”, and we had a topic “Contemporary culture of remembrance in Berlin”. We made a plan of the city where pointed out memorials put up in honor of the victims. Beforehand we had discussed the history, value and contemporary attitude to these memorials.

The results of the action will be presented by Irina and Yulia during meetings with participation of former forced workers, prisoners of concentration camps and ghettos, as well as the youth.
